We can use prototypes of different kinds of faces to determine what makes two types of faces different.
For example, we can make an average male face and an average female face and determine how they are different. It is important that we use male and female faces that are the same for characteristics that we do not want to change, such as age and ethnicity.

We can then apply any percentage of these differences between male and female faces to another face to make it more masculine or more feminine.
In this example, we transformed an individual female face by 100% to make a male version: a male face that is different from the average male face in the same way that the individual female is different from the average female face.
